- 8th Nov 2024 (Friday) - E&SE Primary Individual Championships - (Watford Woodside) Primary school (Year 5 & 6) Swimmers can enter individual events for this gala. - 7th March 2025 (Friday) - HSSA Hertfordshire Secondary Schools Inter-District Champs - Swimmers can make a consideration for selection for the St Albans District team for this gala. The team is selected based on times submitted. Any student in secondary school in St Albans district can submit an entry for consideration. Details to follow.

Results for the 2024 Herts Primary School Inter-District Championships

The results for the 2024 Herts Primary School Champs held on Friday 21st June, 2024 are on the

Results overall:
1st St Albans 433 points
2nd Watford 357 points
3rd North 204 points
4th to 5th - Dacorum, Mid. There was no team this year from East

Summary of results for St Albans District:

Winners of the overall Rose Bowl trophy by 76 points to Watford.
Winners in all 4 of the Boys/Girls Year 5/6 age groups (2 by more than 20 points).
Winners in 10 out of 16 individual events, and winners of all the Freestyle events.
Winners in all 9 of the relays, including the Squadron - this is a first for St Albans District!
Winners of both fastest Medley (Year 6 Boys) and Freestyle (Year 6 Girls) relays

St Albans District medalled 25 times of 48 medals available in the individual events - more than half.
There was a number of PB's.

An amazing effort by all the St Albans District team - well done!!

St Albans District now have 6 in a row wins (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and won 9 out of the last 12 championships.

2024 St Albans District Primary Schools Champs rescheduled to Friday 7th June 2024

Due to the St Albans (Boys) School pool not being ready to open in time for the gala to run tomorrow Friday 17th May, the gala has been rescheduled to Friday 7th June 2024.

2024 St Albans District Primary Schools Champs (Trials gala used for team selection for the HSSA Inter-District Champs)

The 2024 St Albans District Primary Schools Champs will be held on Friday, 17th May, 2024 at the St Albans (Boys) School pool at 7pm (warmup 6.30pm). This gala is open to any Year 5 or 6 student attending school within St Albans District.

This gala is used as a basis for selecting the St Albans District Primary Schools team for the 2024 Herts Primary Inter-District Champs to be held on Friday 21st June, 2024 at Watford Woodside..

An application has been submitted to licensed the gala with Swim England at level 4 which will enable the results for swimmers who have a Swim England number to go on Swim England Rankings.

St Albans District team for the 2024 Hertfordshire Secondary Schools Inter-District Champs - 22nd March, 2024

The Hertfordshire Secondary Schools Inter-District Champs will be held on Friday the 22nd March, 2024 at Watford Woodside. Warmup 7pm and start at 7.30pm. Selection of the St Albans District team for this gala will be made from swimmers making an entry for consideration for selection. Swimmers can be selected if they go to school in St Albans District in years 7 to 13 in the 2023/2024 school year.

- Details of the gala:
There is three age groups.
Junior: Year 7-8: 12 - 14 years: born between 1/9/10 and 31/8/12
(Note that the year 7&8 have reverted back to combined Juniors for this year)
Intermediate: 14 - 16 years: born between 1/9/08 and 31/8/10 (years 9 & 10)
Senior: 16 - 19 years: born between 1/9/05 and 31/8/08 (years 11, 12 & 13)
Swimmers may not compete out of their age group.
Note that from 2023 there is a slight change to the selection rules for the Junior and Intermediate teams.
- One swimmer in the team may do an individual stroke or IM event and 2 relays.
Individual events for each stroke (50m) and IM (100m), and Freestyle and Medley (4x50m), in each age group.
Teams comprise of up to 6 members boys and girls for each age group.

Swimmers can be selected if they go to school in St Albans District in years 7 to 13 in the 2022/2023 school year.

There is four age groups (For 2023 the Juniors are split into 2 teams Year 7 & 8).
Junior: Year 7: 12 - 13 years: born between 1/9/10 and 31/8/11 (year 7)
Year 8: 13 - 14 years: born between 1/9/09 and 31/8/10 (year 8)
Note that the Junior results will be the combination of the results for Year 7 & 8 events.
Intermediate: 14 - 16 years: born between 1/9/07 and 31/8/09 (years 9 & 10)
Senior: 16 - 19 years: born between 1/9/04 and 31/8/07 (years 11, 12 & 13)
Swimmers may not compete out of their age group.

The gala is Swim England licensed level 4 and swimmers who have a Swim England number will go on Swim England Rankings.

The St Albans District Secondary Schools Team wins the 2022 Herts Secondary Inter-District Champs at Watford Woodside on Friday 25th March, 2022

Congratulations to all the St Albans District Secondary Schools Team who won the 2022 Herts Secondary Inter-District Champs at Watford Woodside on Friday 25th March, 2022.

St Albans District won all 6 age categories - Junior, Inter and Senior Girls and Boys. St Albans District also won the overall Boys and Girls and overall.

Also:
- St Albans District was represented in all events with no disqualifications or exhibition swims
- All age categories were convincing winners "except for" Inter Boys winning by 0.5 points
- St Albans District were winners in 16 of the 30 individual events (more than half) and winners of 11 out of the 12 relays.
We also medalled in every event.(total 42 events)
- There were 6 records broken, 4 of which came from St Albans
-> Ellie Holliss in the Senior Girls Free (by 0.05s) - held by East since 2019
-> Senior Boys Medley relay (by almost 1.5s) - held already by St Albans 2019
-> Senior Girls Medley relay (by almost 2.0s) - held by Watford since 2013
-> Senior Boys Freestyle relay (by almost 1.5s) - held by Dacorum since 2013

First places and close to records were:
- Elizabeth Standen in Senior Girls Back (0.6s outside)
- Caitlin Hartley in Senior Girls Breast (0.3s outside)

Excellent swims also from Verity Fuge, Toby Martin, Parker Brewster, Summer Boswell, Phoebe Matthews, Arvin Rodriguez, Chun-ho Chan, Alice Azzopardi, Yasmin Meadows, Daniel Holliss, Olly Fenwick, Amy Witton, James Atwell, Hannah Brooke, Ever Ives, Lucas, Hartley, Megan Gray, and Nathaniel Mapley.

The team finished overall with 231 points which was 70 points points ahead of second placed Watford.

Hi all, we will be starting up school swimming for the 2021/22 year. It has been a long break as you know and has been very disappointing to not be able to run the galas for the swimmers.

Cancellation of the remaining 2020 (calendar year) Herts galas and changes to the 2021 Herts Secondary Inter-District gala

Based on the statements of ESSA, the Herts Schools Swimming Assocation (HSSA) has cancelled the remaining 2020 (calendar year) galas. This includes:
- 5th June 2020 - 2020 Herts Primary Inter-District champs
- 25th Sep 2020 & 9th Oct 2020 - ESSA Secondary Team E/SE qualifications
- Nov 2020 - E&SE Primary Individual Champs (PIC)

At this stage all 2021 (calendar year) galas are still scheduled to occur.

The Herts Schools Swimming Association has looked at the implications of the cancellation of the 2020 Herts Primary Inter-District champs and are planning changes to the 2021 Herts Secondary Inter-District to accommodate. For the 2021 gala, the Year 7's for 2021 (year 6's for 2020) will be a separate group in the 2021 gala.

Cancellation of the 2020 St Albans District Primary Schools Championships/Trials Gala scheduled for 2nd May, 2020 and the 2020 Herts Primary Schools Inter-District championships scheduled for the 5th June, 2020

Following the Government guidance and confirmed by Swim England, ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) and HSSA (Herts Schools Swimming Association), the 2020 St Albans District Primary Schools Championships/Trials gala scheduled for 2nd May, 2020 is cancelled.

As you know this gala is used as a basis for selection of the team for the Herts Primary Schools Inter-District championships on the 5th June, 2020. Brenda Prescott, secretary of the HSSA has informed all the district representatives last week (including myself at St Albans District) that the 2020 Herts Primary Schools Inter-District championships will also not go ahead.

I am obviously very disappointed that this is the case. Having run the St Albans District championships/trials gala for many years I know how important and enjoyable this gala is to many swimmers (and parents!) and also as a path to selection for the Herts Primary Inter-District champs.

Over the next couple of months the HSSA, along with the district reps, will be looking to see if there is something we can do in the school year 20/21 to offer the swimmers. Of course we don't know whether this will be achievable or possible or what form this might take at this stage. I plan to keep you updated if and when I know more.

The St Albans District Secondary Schools Team wins the 2020 Herts Secondary Inter-District Champs at Watford Woodside on Friday 13th March, 2020

Congratulations to all the St Albans District Secondary Schools Team who won the 2020 Herts Secondary Inter-District Champs at Watford Woodside on Friday 13th March, 2020.

St Albans District won 4 out of the 6 age categories (Junior, Inter and Senior Girls and Senior Boys), a close 2nd for the Junior Boys (behind Watford by 3 points), and the Inter Boys 3rd behind Mid. St Albans District won the overall Boys and Girls and overall. A fantastic achievement by all the team.

Also...
- St Albans District was represented in all events with no disqualifications
- The Inter Girls were winners by 12 points from Dacorum
- St Albans District were winners in 14 of the 30 individual events (almost half) and
winners of 7 out of the 12 relays (more than half)
- Medalled in just about all the events.
- There were 3 records broken, all of which came from St Albans
-> Hannah Brooke in the Inter Girls Free (by 0.4s) - held already by St Albans (Ellie Holliss 2019)
-> Inter Girls Medley relay (by 0.3s) - held already by St Albans (2019)
-> Senior Boys Medley relay (by 0.1s) - broke a 9 year old record of East

The 2020 St Albans District Primary Schools Trials Gala will be held on Saturday, 2nd May, 2020 at the St Albans (Boys) School pool at 6pm (warmup 5.30pm). This gala is open to any Year 5 or 6 student attending school within St Albans District.

The 2020 Trials gala is used a basis for selecting the St Albans District Primary Schools team for the 2020 Herts Primary Inter-District Champs on Friday 5th June, 2020 at Watford Woodside..

The gala is Swim England licensed level 4 and swimmers who have a Swim England number will go on Swim England Rankings.

Deadline for entries is Wednesday, 29th April, 2020

There is three age groups.
Junior: 12 - 14 years: born between 1/9/06 and 31/8/08 (years 7 & 8)

Senior: 16 - 19 years: born between 1/9/01 and 31/8/04 (years 11, 12 & 13)
Swimmers may not compete out of their age group.
Individual events for each stroke (50m) and IM (100m), and Freestyle and Medley (4x50m), in each age group.

- The Year 6 Boys won by 20.5 points (108 to Watford's 87.5)
- The Year 6 Girls were a narrow 3rd behind Dacorum and Watford (only 7 points in it - Dacorum 88, St Albans 81)

Congratulations to all the St Albans District Secondary Schools Team who won the 2019 Herts Secondary Inter-District Champs at Watford Woodside on Friday 8th March, 2019.

St Albans District won 4 out of the 6 age categories (Junior, Inter and Senior Girls and Senior Boys) and a close 2nd in the other 2 (Junior and Inter Boys) and St Alban District was overall winners. A fantastic achievement by all the team.

- The Inter Girls were winners by 12 points from Watford
- St Albans District were winners in 10 of the 30 individual events and winners of 8 out of the 12 relays
The team also medalled in just about all the events.
- There were 12 records broken of which 6 came from St Albans District

Overall St Albans District came a joint 2nd with East, very closely behind Watford (a few points)
2 teams were placed first; Junior Boys and Inter Girls, with the Senior Girls just beaten into 2nd place
Harriet Hanson, Senior Girls, achieved a record in the Senior Girls 50m Butterfly in a time of 29.96s (previous 30.33s)
Reese Housden, Junior boys, achieved 1st place in all his 3 events (IM, Fly and Medley relay)
Katialin Dang, Inter Girls, achieving two 1st places and a 2nd in her 3 events (1st place in Breast and Free relay).
Junior Boys and Girls won all their relays
Junior Boys won all all their events (individual and relays) except one (which was a 2nd place!)

- For the 2015, there is some changes to the schools categories. There is now a Medium schools category in addition to Small schools (both of which cannot field both a boys and girls relay teams, but can do one or the other or mixed) and Large schools category (can field both a boys and girls separate relay teams). Please review the Regulations carefully so you know what category your school is in. The notification and regulations document is with the Entry form on the Primary Events page of the HSSA website.
- The deadline for entry is Friday 30th January, 2015 (Note you do not have to submit the swimmers names by this deadline).
Note that the ESSA final is on Saturday 20th June 2015 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield (if selected from the qualifying round).

- rough times for the gala is registration 5.30pm, warmup 6pm, start 6.30pm and will last around 2 hours.
- if you are in year 5 or 6 for the school year 2013/2014, attend a school within St Albans District, you can enter.
- there is no minimum qualification times.

2014 ESSA East & South East Divisions Individual Championships for Primary School Children

Results for the 2014 Herts Primary School Champs
The results for the 2014 Herts Primary School Champs are now on the Herts Schools Swimming Association website - www.hertsssa.org.uk.
Changes to the results from Friday's gala:
- Year 5 Boys came second (by 2 points) to Watford
- Year 6 Boys won outright first by 11 points from East
Summary of results for St Albans District:
- Won by 50 points from joint second place East and Watford - regaining the Rose Bowl with the 3rd win in 4 years.
- 4 Individual first places and 11 second/third places including 4 seconds within 0.5s of the winner.
(Oliver Parker, Ruby Blackburne, Jessica Bond, Lauren Stott)
- Oliver Parker broke the 50m Boys year 5 Fly record but was 3rd behind Watford and North.
- Jess Patrick was 0.2s outside of the 50m Girls year 6 Back record
- 5 relay first places and 3 second places covering all 8 relays!
- Girls year 5 Medley relay was 0.2s outside of the record
- Girls year 6 Medley relay won the cup for the fastest medley relay.
- Girls year 6 Freestyle relay were 1s outside the record.
WELL DONE to all the swimmers. A fantastic achievement.

St Albans District win the 2014 Herts Primary School Champs
With an amazing performance of the team right across the board, St Albans District regained the Rose Bowl for winning the 2014 Herts Primary School Champs. Well done to all the swimmers.

We have now selected the St Albans District team for the Herts Primary Schools Champs to be held on Friday 16th May, 2014 at Watford Woodside. Those selected have been e-mailed. The selection of the team was very difficult this year in many instances, with so many excellent swims at the trials gala.

The times for the gala are slightly earlier than the times below:
- Registration from 5pm, Warmup approx 5.30pm and Gala start approx 6pm.

2014 St Albans District Trials Gala - IMPORTANT UPDATE - Change of date (confirmed)
Please note that the Trials Gala will be moving to Saturday, 26th April 2014, at The St Albans (Boys) School.
As mentioned previously, this is due to the fact that we became aware of a significant event clash on the 29th March which would impact the swimmers from many of the St Albans primary schools. We apologise for this change, and very appreciative that the St Albans School can accommodate the move in date.
Rough times for the gala is registration 5.30pm, warmup 6pm, start 6.30pm and will last around 2 hours.
Full details including entry form will be available on the website by the weekend 8/9th March.

- Please note the 2014 Primary Schools’ Teams Relays – ESSA qualifying round will be held on Friday 7th March at Woodside, Watford 6.30/7.00pm - 9.30pm

- This gala is open to any teams from primary schools within Hertfordshire. Teams comprise 4 swimmers from years 5 or 6 only. Events are 4 x 25m each of Freestyle and Medley, Boys and Girls. There is also a small schools category. The gala is held jointly with Buckinghamshire.
The deadline for entry is Friday 7th February 2014 (Note you do not have to submit the swimmers names by this deadline).
Note that the ESSA final is on Saturday 21st June, 2014 at Sheffield (if selected from the qualifying round).

The 2014 Trials Gala will be held on Saturday, 29th March, 2014 at the St Albans (Boys) School.
If you are in year 5 or 6 for the school year 2013/2014, attend a school within St Albans District, you can enter. There is no minimum qualification times.
The gala is used as a basis for selection of the St Albans District team to participate in the Herts Primary School championships Friday 16th May, 2014.

2013 Hertfordshire Primary Schools Inter-District Championships - Results
Results for this gala are on the Herts School Swimming website. Please click here.
The winner of the 2013 gala was East, with Dacorum 2nd, and St Albans 3rd.
There was only 4 points between first place and third place.
St Albans was the year group winner for Yr 6 Boys.
Well done to all the St Albans District team for their efforts and achievements.

On Friday 26th April, the St Albans District team will compete in the Hertfordshire Primary Schools Champs.
St Albans District won this event in 2012 and 2011.

2013 Trials Gala - Full Results
The final full results have been posted in the Trials Gala 2013 area of the website. As many of you will know we had some quite serious problems with the computer and had to resort to manual place and time recording (thankfully the AOE worked well). Compounding this, the times were then entered on an incorrect version of the programme (page 3 only).
We have now selected the St Albans District team for the Herts Primary Schools Champs to be held on Friday 26th April at Watford Woodside. Those selected have been e-mailed. For the composition of the team see the St Albans District Team 2013 area of the website..

This gala is to be held on Friday 1st March, 2013 at Watford Woodside pool (6.30pm for 7pm). It is open to teams from any ESSA affiliated schools within Hertfordshire. This is a combined Year 5 & 6 event with separate events for Boys and Girls - 4 x 25m Freestyle and Medley (Mixed stroke) relays.
Schools can enter as a Small school if combined year 5 & 6 pupils is less than 50.

Nathan Hughes (captain of the 2011 St Albans District Team) wins 5 events at the National Age Swimming Championships
Congratulations to Nathan who won the 11 year boys 200m Breaststroke, 200m and 400m Freestyle, 200m and 400m Individual Medley. He also came 2nd in the 100m Bbreaststroke, 3rd in the 100m Freestyle, 4th in the 200m Butterfly, 5th in the 200m Backstroke and 6th in the 100m backstroke.
These individual ahievements earned Nathan the crown of overall 11 Years National BAGCAT (British Age Group Category) champion.
Well done Nathan!

The trophy and/or cups should now have been circulated to all the schools which had year 6 (2010/2011) members of the St Albans District team which won the Herts Primary Champs in May. The remaining schools will be included in the circulation after the summer holidays.
