GCSE 2018 Series 2 |
This mini-gala is for current GCSE students studying PE and including swimming as one of their non-exam assessed activities for the 2018/19 school year (or 2019/20 school if applicable).
It is designed to provide a competitive situation where students are able to video themselves racing as part of the evidence needed for assessment.
Events comprise individual races of 50m and 100m only (no 100m Butterfly). There will be no event if there is no swimmers entered for that event.
The races will be run in a similar fashion to club galas (Referee/Starter/Timekeeper) and the technical rules of swimming will be applied. Times recorded for each event will be provided to the swimmers.
As there is a cost to hire the pool, any participants entering are encouraged to contribute towards this. A suggested contribution is £7 to be paid at registration. The GSCE student doing swimming is encouraged to bring a school swimmer of similar standard if possible (but not a requirement). No monetary contribution is suggested for these swimmers.
Swimmers parents/guardians will need to sign the book at the entry to confirm that any still or video recording is for personal purposes only and will be focussed on their son or daughter. They will need to also agree that their swimmers are likely to be videoed indirectly by other parents/guardians.
Please note:
- All swimmers racing must be able to successfully complete the length of the event entered.
- All races will be from the blocks end of the pool and be either 50m or 100m events.
- Any non-GSCE PE Swimming students can participate as long as they are able to do so in a competitive manner.
- Spectators (parents/guardians) will be videoing their swimmers during the races for the purposes described above.
- StASSA will not be providing any general videoing of swimmers. Videoing must be conducted by parents/guardians/teachers.
The GCSE 2018 Series 2 event will be held at The St Albans High School for Girls pool (Townsend Ave, St Albans AL1 3SJ) on Saturday 6th October - registration/entry to changing rooms/warmup from 6.30pm, with races scheduled to start from 6.45pm.
