Selection of the team
8 swimmers from each year/gender group are selected giving a total of 32 for the team.
Each team member will swim 1 individual event and 1 leg of either the Medley or Freestyle relays. The individual events are 50m and the relays are 4 x 25m.
Generally, those swimmers who come first or second in an event at the trials gala will be included in the team. However, this does not mean they will do that particular event, as an individual event, in the Herts Champs.
Both the the selection of the team and what each swimmer is swimming (individual and relay) is made to maximise the potential of the whole team. We consider all the events swimmers completed (and times) to decide on the make up of the team and what each person will swim.
Details of the Hertforshire Primary Swimming Championships
St Albans District will swim in Lane 5 at the 2013 championships.
The event comprises 2 individual 50m events for each of the 4 strokes and 2 relays Freestyle and
Medley both 4 x 25m. Therefore, each team member swims in 2 events, an individual and a relay.
Points in the championships are based on the following:
There is 6 Hertfordshire Districts - St Albans, Watford, East, North, Dacorum, and Mid - lanes 1 & 8 are not used.
Each individual event is run Heat Declared Winner (there is no finals) ie. all 12 swimmers (2 from each District) in an individual event are ranked after the event with 1st getting 1 point and 12th 12 points. No swimmer or DQ gets 13 points.
Each relay event is run as a final with 1st getting 1 point and 6th getting 6 points. No team or DQ gets 7 points.
The team with the least points is the winner of the championships, and also for each age/gender group.
