The winner of the St Albans District Primary Schools Trial Gala cup, awarded for the best performance at the 2011 Trials Gala, went to Nathan Hughes of The King's School. Nathan won all year 6 boys events, all in record times. Well done Nathan. Please see at the bottom for more details of the Trials Gala Cup 2011.
Thank you to all the swimmers who participated in our second gala. Again we saw lots of excellent swims and personal best times. Particular standout efforts came from:
- Katialin Dang - winner of all 4 Yr 5 girls events, with 3 record times
- Ben Muckleston - winner of 2 Yr 5 boys events in record times
- Samuel McConnell - winner of 2 Yr 5 boys events in record times
- Shannon Stott - winner of 3 Yr 6 girls events
- Ben Galvin - year 6 boys who broke the previous records in all 4 events.
We thank all the officials and helpers who gave up their time to make this gala such a successful one. We hope that you thought the move this year to the Hertfordshire Sports Village was a good one.
For those swimmers who provided their ASA number, the results will be posted to the National ASA times database shortly. If you wish to view the database click here.
We would love to hear any feedback on this years gala - good or bad. Please e-mail me direct on [email protected].
We plan to select the team during the coming week and will e-mail those swimmers who have been succesful.
Hope to see you again next year.

Trials Gala cup 2011
- The winner of the cup is generally that swimmer in their 2 best events had a better overall combined difference from Herts County qualification times than any other swimmer. The best 2 events must be both winning events. Where a swimmer had more than 2 winning events then the 2 best events (relative to the Herts qual times) are used.
- The Herts county qualification times used are: 10 years for Year 5's and 11 years for Year 6's (the qualification times for counties are set at 20th March and are used to approximate 1/2 way through the school year (Sept to Aug))
- It has to be recognised that this methodology is not completely foolproof and the committee will use the performances over all events as a guide in the event of the 1st and 2nd places are close.
- The Herts County qualification times are used as this currently is the best method to equalise the swimmers across years and boys/girls.
- The scores for the 2011 Trial Gala Cup assessment were:
1st Nathan Hughes -35.6%
2nd Katialin Dang -26.6%
3rd Ben Muckleston -22.3%
4th Shannon Stott -19.0%
5th Samuel McConnell -15.1%
